ZeroAvia

ZeroAvia is a company focused on developing hydrogen-electric powertrain technology for aviation. Founded in 2018 by Valery Miftakhov, the company aims to enable zero-emission, low-noise flights for regional aircraft. With teams in California, Washington, and the United Kingdom, ZeroAvia has achieved significant milestones, including the world’s first zero-emission flight of a six-seat aircraft in 2019 and successful test flights of a 19-seat hydrogen-electric plane in 2023. The company is working on hydrogen fuel cell-powered engines that can compete with traditional aircraft engines. ZeroAvia has secured over $100 million in funding from notable investors like Amazon and British Airways. It collaborates with major airlines and aerospace companies, targeting certification of its first powertrain for up to 20-seat planes by the end of 2026, with plans to develop larger powertrains for 30–90 seat aircraft by 2028. The mission is to replace fossil-fuel engines with hydrogen-electric systems, significantly reducing the aviation industry's carbon footprint and noise pollution.
