WPX Energy

WPX Energy was an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Founded in 1983, it specialized in unconventional resource development, primarily in the Permian Basin and the Williston Basin. The company managed approximately 122,000 net acres in the Delaware Basin and 87,000 net acres in the Williston Basin, producing around 105,000 barrels of oil, 27,000 barrels of natural gas, and 35,000 barrels of natural gas liquids per day. WPX Energy focused on exploration, development, and production, with a strategy that included expanding its operations through acquisitions. In January 2021, WPX Energy merged with Devon Energy Corporation, forming a leading energy producer in the U.S. The merger aimed to enhance scale and efficiency, with the combined company expected to produce about 525,000 barrels of oil and natural gas equivalents per day.
