TSMC, or Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, is the world's first and largest independent semiconductor foundry, based in Hsin-chu, Taiwan. Founded in 1987 by Morris Chang, TSMC pioneered the pure-play foundry business model, focusing exclusively on manufacturing semiconductor chips for other companies. This innovative approach allowed chip designers to outsource manufacturing, enabling them to concentrate on design without the complexities of in-house production. The company operates multiple fabrication facilities with advanced technological capabilities, including its first 12-inch fab established in 1999. TSMC has significantly expanded its technology portfolio over the years and serves major semiconductor companies such as NVIDIA, AMD, Apple, Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek Inc. TSMC went public in 1994 and has since become a key player in the global semiconductor industry, attracting international investment for its growth and expansion.
