Jackson Laboratory

The Jackson Laboratory, or JAX, is a nonprofit biomedical research institution founded in 1929 in Bar Harbor, Maine. Its mission is to advance human health through collaborative scientific research, focusing on the genetic basis of diseases. JAX is known for pioneering the use of laboratory mice as models for human disease, which has greatly influenced modern medical treatments. JAX conducts research in various areas, including cancer, immunology, neuroscience, life-cycle biology, and microbiome studies.
