Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the Indian Armed Forces, established on October 8, 1932. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and conduct aerial warfare during conflicts, while also participating in peacekeeping missions under the United Nations. The IAF has evolved significantly since its inception, transitioning from the Indian Aviation Corps to the Royal Indian Air Force in 1945, and later becoming the Indian Air Force in 1950. With approximately 135,000 personnel, the IAF is organized into five operational and two functional commands. It plays a crucial role in defending Indian airspace, providing air support to ground forces, and conducting reconnaissance and logistics missions. The IAF operates a diverse fleet of aircraft, including fighters, transport planes, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles, continuously modernizing its capabilities to maintain operational readiness and technological superiority. The IAF serves the citizens of India by protecting national sovereignty and security.
